Nikita Lobintsev captures Men’s 100m freestyle title: Day One – 2011 Swimming World Cup, Moscow
Nikita Lobintsev of Russia showed his skills to his challengers by capturing gold medal of Men’s 100m freestyle playoff on the opening day of the 2011 Swimming World Cup in Moscow, Russia, on Tuesday, October 18.
Moscow is the third stop of seven-stage World Cup series organised by Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA), which is the international aquatics sport governing body.
Lobintsev met the expectations of his fans by showing his urgency towards the gold medal of the freestyle discipline. With the help of his immaculate stroke and ruthless efforts, he denied the frenzy efforts of his challengers, who tried hard to take away
his gold medal.
The Russian remained significantly stronger than his competitors throughout the short course freestyle event. With his perfect start and aggressive stroke, Lobintsev remained 0.21 seconds faster than his following swimmer, Brent Hayden of Canada.
The 22-year-old Russian shattered hopes of his opponents by completing his first half of the race in 22.80 seconds. He was trailed by defending champion, Matthew Abood of Australia, who covered the same distance in 22.84 seconds. Hayden remained prominent
for the third fastest spot of the swim as he completed his first half of the race in 23.01 seconds.
Lobintsev continued his reigning performance in the second half, where he completed his swim in a time of 47.32 seconds for gold medal. Subsequently, Hayden elevated his efforts in the final 50 metres of the race as he completed his swim in a time of 24.44
seconds to post 47.45 seconds on the board.
Abood, who owns the World Cup record of the event in 45.46 seconds failed to defend his title. The Australian remained 0.44 seconds slower than his former finisher and clocked a time of 47.89 seconds for bronze medal.
Lobintsev received a huge round of applause from arena as he devastated hopes of defending champion in the 100m freestyle swim. In addition, the winners were called upon the medal rostrum for their medals while the championship will conclude on October 19
after the completion of all swimming events.
