Nikita Lobintsev conquers Men’s 100m freestyle heats: Day One – 2011 Swimming World Cup, Moscow
Russia’s one of the elegant freestyle swimmer, Nikita Lobintsev conquered the qualifying rounds of Men’s 100m freestyle on the opening day of the 2011 Swimming World Cup in Moscow, Russia on Tuesday, October 18.
Moscow is the third stage of seven stop World Cup, organised by the international aquatics sport controlling body, Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA).
Lobintsev faced stiff competition from Canada’s Brent Hayden and Australia’s Eamon Sullivan, but the Russian proved his mettle for the finest qualification spot in the final round.
The 22-year-old Lobintsev was the third fastest swimmer to take off from the starting blocks as he followed the lead of Sullivan and Hayden in the first lap. Sullivan remained top contender for the fastest qualification spot as he sprinted his way towards
the first tune with a timing of 23.09 seconds.
Hayden remained second fastest swimmer in the first half, clocking a time of 23.20. He was followed by Lobintsev, who made his way through the first half in a time of 23.24 seconds.
In the next half of the swim, Lobintsev elevated his efforts and showed no mercy to his challengers, clocking a time of 24.61 in second lap to post 47.85 seconds for the fastest qualification spot.
After Lobintsev’s furious efforts, Hayden dropped down to second finest qualification spot as he remained 0.35 seconds slower than his former finisher and ended his swim in a time of 48.20 seconds.
He was just a touch away from his following swimmer, Sullivan, who was eyeing the top qualification berth but remained just 0.12 seconds behind his preceding swimmer. Sullivan clocked a time of 48.32 seconds to enter the final round.
On the other hand, Sullivan’s team-member, Matthew Abood concluded his swim in the seventh fastest place by submitting a time of 48.86 seconds.
The session concluded after the completion of all scheduled events while the spectators appreciated aggressive efforts of all qualifying swimmers. Furthermore, these finalists will compete with each other in the final round of 100m event to secure podium
finishes.
