Nikki Garrett stood 4th in the Ladies Irish Open
The Australian player Nikki Garrett surprised everyone with a fourth place in the Ladies Irish Open. She finished the event with a score of 215, 6 behind the winner, Catriona Matthew from Scotland.
Garrett finished the first round with a score of 73. She scored four bogeys on holes 5, 8, 13 and 17. However, she scored three birdies on holes 7, 16 and 18 as well. This performance made many notice her and she became a favourite of the commentators.
She improved her performance marginally with a score of 72 in the second round. The round started with a bogey on the first hole. She scored a birdie on the sixth hole and finished the front nine. She again shot a birdie on the 15th hole and then
a bogey on the 17th.
The final round was her best with a score of 70. She scored three birdies and a bogey in this round. She scored two back-to-back birdies on 12th and the 13th hole. This great performance was shadowed by a bogey on the 14th
hole. She again scored a birdie on the 15th hole.
This is one of her best performances of this year. Garrett gave a tough competition to the top players in the event. She was in the top-ten throughout the event.
During the second round, particularly, she did manage to come close to the third place. However, her two bogeys proved to be a hindrance for her to claim a top-three finish.
She played an excellent final round but even her score of 70 was not enough to save the day. The deficit in the first two rounds was large enough to eclipse her performance in the third round.
Garrett has gained more than just a share of the prize money. Before this event, she was just one of the many aspiring young professionals who are a constant feature of any tournament.
She distinguished herself with her game and now her progress in any event will be closely monitored by the experts.
The Ladies Irish Open was won by the Scottish player Catriona Matthew. The runner up was the well known Suzann Pettersen.
