Niklas Zennstrom's RAN extends TP52 standings lead as Iberdrola stays on top of Soto 40: Day 2
Niklas Zennstrom’s TP52 yacht, Ran and Spain’s Soto 40 boat, Iberdrola have extended their overall lead in their respective classes at the end of Day 2 of the 2011 Audi MedCup City of Barcelona Trophy. Spain’s Bribon, winner of Murcia Trophy, finished second
with four points on Day 2 while in Soto 40 class, Spanish Cruiser-racer.com grabbed second place.
Weather conditions at Barcelona on Day 2 were lighter than Day 1, so the race management decided to have two races only. The winds were gusting around seven to 12 knots over the racing area which did not let sailors from both classes produce superb sails.
Ran, skippered by Niklas Zennstrom built the first race tremendously, crossing on port to lead the fleet on the right side of race course at the windward mark to book top spot. Ran was eager to take the second race but Bribon had a strong sail to finish
on top, while Ran finished second.
In the Soto 40 class, the overall Audi MedCup leaders, Iberdrola sailed convincingly in the only race of the day and finished on top ahead of Cruiser-racer.com. However, Iberdrola had to sail under more light conditions than the TP52 series, as the winds
became lighter to around six to seven knots over the racing area.
