Niko Kranjcar, the 26-year-old Tottenham Hotspur attacking midfielder c*m winger, revealed his future at White Hart Lane depended on whether or not fellow countryman Luka Modric would be staying with the Spurs.
Modric has been heavily linked with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 in the summer transfer window, but the Spurs have not yet accepted the bid made by the Blues. Chelsea improved their initial bid of £22 million to £27 million but have yet to receive a positive response from Tottenham.
Even though the 25-year-old midfielder has expressed his desire to leave White Hart Lane for Chelsea, the Spurs are stubbornly hanging on. Despite his future undecided, Modric is currently accompanying the rest of the squad on their pre-season tour of South
Africa.
Kranjcar transferred from Hajduk Split in 2006 to then English Premier League side Portsmouth, where he made 83 appearances in the league and scored 9 goals. It was under the reign of Harry Redknapp that Kranjcar had joined Portsmouth, which is why he was
signed by Tottenham Hotspur when Redknapp took over the London side.
Since his arrival at Tottenham Hotspur in the 2009-2010 season from Portsmouth for a fee of £2.5 million on a four year deal, Kranjcar has gone to make just 37 appearances in the English Premier League for the Spurs, scoring 8 goals.
The versatile midfielder has always been second to Modric, who managed to cement a place in the starting XI when he joined the Spurs in 2008. Kranjcar admitted the only time he could hope to have a shot in the first team would be if Modric left in the summer.
Kranjcar made just two starts in the Premier League last season, which is why he is certain he will be loaned out next season if Modric remains. However, his inflated valuation of an estimated €15 million could scare away potential suitors.
Kranjcar said while speaking to reporters:
“I'm quite calm about the situation at the moment but of course it will be nice to see how things will end.
This summer's transfer window will be one of the most interesting moments in my career.
But one thing is certain, if Tottenham sell Luka Modric, I will stay. However, if Luka stays, I will probably be loaned out somewhere.”
