Nikola Ciric ousts Pablo Galdon in first round – Uruguay Open 2011 CH
Ranked at 176th spot in the world, Nikola Ciric of Serbia sailed into the second round of the 2011 Uruguay Open when he defeated Argentinean Pablo Galdon. The Serbian won the match in less than an hour, clinching the victory in
straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.
Ciric, who played the qualifying match at the 2011 Wimbledon and the 2011 French Open, played exceptional tennis as he kept a dominating lead in both sets against Galdon. The Argentinean could not give any solid reply to his opponent’s
attacking shots.
The Serbian scored nine aces in the match that gave him all the momentum he needed to create a lead and sustain it. He conceded double faults only twice in the match.
Galdon, on the other hand, could not deliver any ace but he got frustrated for staying behind and in desperation, he conceded double faults four times in the match.
As the first set progressed, Ciric scored four aces with double faults twice. Galdon did not deliver any ace for his lack of aggression and his double faults were also none. The Serbian used his service games to keep moving forward
as had a 71% first serve winning ratio while Galdon could only secure 47% points.
The 28-year old Ciric gave an exciting game to the spectators as he won 93% points from his first serve.
He was near flawless in his service games but his second serves were not that well played. He won only 33% points from his second serve, but his early aggressive stance in the set made him retain his lead.
Galdon did well but his service games were not on target to give him any in securing a lead. He won 50% points from his first serve and maintained his service shots when he won 44% points from his second serve.
Ciric’s service games were what kept him ahead of Galdon in the set. The Serbian did not let Galdon break any of his service games. This showed that the Serbian was using all of his shots with perfection in compelling his opponent
to concede errors.
With an ATP win/loss ratio of 47/42, Ciric was the experienced player against Galdon, who has an ATP win/loss ratio of 16/26.
Galdon could only watch Ciric win games in the opening set of the match. The Argentenian only won a single game in the set as Ciric won the first set 6-1.
Ciric was again dominant in the second set as he scored five aces and did not concede any double fault.
He was right on target with all of his serves and completely dominated his opponent. The Serbian had an 81% first serve winning ratio while Galdon could only secure a 65% winning rate.
Winning 204 matches in the ITF (International Tennis Federation) circuit, Galdon, was in the trail to get a lead but his game deficits in both the sets were too high for him to control.
Ciric, who has won 169 matches in the ITF division, who remained focused throughout the match, won the second set 6-2 and cruised into the next round of the tournament.
