Nikolas Tombazis believes Ferrari still need to make improvements – Formula 1 news
Ferrari chief designer, Nikolas Tombazis believes there is still plenty of room for improvements and insisted that they must work hard to enhance their qualifying pace for the season ahead.
The Scarlet team had quite a reliable pre-season testing programme in this season as compared to the previous one in which they struggled a lot with their car. However, they have not been able to maximise their potential in the season until now as both their
drivers, Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa have faced few problems with their car due to which they have not been to compete well with their rivals.
Tombazis said that even though they are quite satisfied with their start and are positively looking forward to perform well in the season ahead with a hope to win the championship fight, but they have not been able to achieve the desired results in the first
four rounds. Therefore, he asserted that they must work hard to make the essential improvements in their qualifying pace so as to attain better results in the forthcoming races.
“I think in general, the first results mean we can be reasonably optimistic about the rest of the season, with a sense that we can fight for wins and the Championship,” said Tombazis on the official Ferrari website.
“However, if I was to score our overall performance, I would only give it a 6 out of 10 and that's for two main reasons: one is that we are not yet quite where we want to be. In the first four Grands Prix, we were not really able to fight for pole position
and that is one of our main objectives at the moment,” he added.
Besides, he said that most of the contenders will introduce some significant updates in their cars in the Spanish GP and they are also hoping to come up stronger with few important step-ups. He also stated that they are earnestly waiting to test their updates
in the Friday practice at Circuit de Catalunya and are aiming to gather as much data as they can in order to make further advancements accordingly.
