Nikolas Tombazis says Ferrari does not have a winning car – Formula 1
Ferrari’s chief designer, Nikolas Tombazis, reveals that the Ferrari team have not worked hard on their updates and the Italian team does not have a winning car. Nikolas further added that some of the rival teams have developed their cars according to the
2011 rules, but the Ferrari team have been rather conservative.
Talking about the Ferrari’s 2011 car, Ferrari150° Italia, Nikolas said, “At the moment, we don’t have a winning car and, on those of our competitors we can see innovative solutions introduced in a more aggressive fashion than we have done.”
Nikolas added that the Ferrari team have been rather conservative in their approach and this may be why the Italian team has struggled in the opening three races. However, Nikolas said that the team will catch up with the higher running teams, Red Bull and
McLaren. “We have had a disappointing start to the season. In order to recover from it, I think it is important to understand what mistakes we made and we have analysed this with much honesty and open mindedness. I am therefore convinced that we can get back
to winning again.”
After winning 16 constructors’ championships in the past, the Ferrari team were fighting for their reputation in the Formula 1 arena. From the last couple of years, Ferrari’s performance has been in constant decline, which Nikolas admits.
In the 2011 season, the Performance of the Italian team has not improved. With one of the best pre-season performances in history, the Ferrari team was marching towards a great battle with the Red Bull team during the season.
But as soon as the season started, Ferrari’s duo, Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa, were way back in the competition and were constantly overtaken surprisingly by the Renault and Mercedes team.
Nevertheless, the struggling Ferrari’s duo have somehow managed to be in the top ten finishers in the first three races and have managed to score 50 points in total. They are currently placed third in the constructor’s championship table.
The next race will be contested in Turkey on the 8th of May and Ferrari’s duo will try to do their best to live up to the expectations of their fans.
