Nikolay Davydenko thinks that Andy Murray can never win a Grand Slam title – Tennis News
Russia’s former world number three, Nikolay Davydenko, will take on the current fourth ranked player, Andy Murray, in the first round of the Wimbledon Championships on Tuesday.
There was already high anticipation about this opening round clash, as Murray is once again trying to become the first British to win a Grand Slam title after a gap of almost 80 years but Davydenko’s statement has further increased
fans’ attention on this match.
The Brit has already lost three times in the title matches of Grand Slams. Featuring in his first Major final, he went down at the hands of Rojer Federer at the 2008 US Open. The 25-year-old lost to the Swiss legend again at the
Australian Open final in 2009. Completing a hat-trick of going down in the finals, he got defeated by Serbia’s Novak Djokovic at the 2011 Australian Open.
Davydenko said, “Murray has reached the Australian Open final but it doesn't look like he has enough to win it. When you look at Rafa Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic they look like different players. I think it's difficult
for him to go to that level."
Murray, who has remained in the top four for the last many years now, is known as a part of ‘Big Four’ but has yet failed to win a Major. Whereas, rest of the members of that group i.e. Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Federer have shared
28 of the last 29 Grand Slams among them.
Davydenko also shared that players on the ATP World Tour often laugh on Murray. The Russian said, "We just laugh sometimes. Sometimes he walks on court, he looks tired, like he doesn't want to run anymore and then he runs like
an animal. He has done that all his career. He may have a pain somewhere but if you ask any player they will all say they have pains here and there. Nobody says they are perfect. It's just not possible."
A couple of weeks back Britain’s former Wimbledon Champion, Virginia Wade, said that Murray is a drama queen. Former number two on the ATP World Tour, Tommy Hass, joined the criticism, as he blamed the Brit of faking injuries.
