Nikolay Skvortsov clinches Men’s 200m butterfly title – 2012 FINA Swimming World Cup, Berlin
Nikolay Skvortsov of Russia clinched gold medal of the Men’s 200m butterfly on day one of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Berlin, Germany on Saturday, October 20.
The Russian swimmer stifled hopes of his opponents in the distant butterfly discipline and proved his mettle for the title. With his impressive performance in the eight-lap discipline, Skvortsov remained in a prominent lead over his toughest competitor and
secured the crown.
He enjoyed a lead of half body length over his closest competitor and transpired on the finishing end for gold medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 51.77 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Daiya Seto of Japan, who was 0.45 seconds apart and emerged on the finishing end as second best finisher with a timing of 1 minute and 52.22 seconds.
The silver medallist was chased by Tom Shields of USA, who stayed 0.05 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall as third best finisher by producing a time of 1 minute and 52.27 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Kazuya Kaneda of Japan, who was 0.33 seconds slower and settled on the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 52.60 seconds.
Kaneda was traced by Leonardo De Deus of Brazil, who remained two body lengths behind and made his way to the wall as fifth position holder by clocking a time of 1 minute and 54.43 seconds.
Similarly, De Deus remained 0.28 seconds away from Mauricio Fiol, who reached the finishing end for sixth place by submitting a time of 1 minute and 54.71 seconds.
Fiol was traced by David Verraszto of Hungary, who remained 3.08 seconds apart and emerged on the wall as seventh fastest swimmer by reporting a time of 1 minute and 57.79 seconds.
Eighth position of the event was obtained by Alexandre Liess of Switzerland, who stayed full body length apart and posted a time of 1 minute and 58.64 seconds.
In addition, Skvortsov was happy with his gruelling form in the butterfly discipline and stressed that he would continue his hard work to achieve the same in future.
