so the camera i have now isnt that great. its a sony cybershot & its fuzzy without a flash & everything looks terrible with the flash.

Plus it takes forever after i push the button for the picture to take.

The Nikon Coolpix has cool colors & the commercial says it starts qucikly. so a few questions.

1. Does it take normal AA batteries or does it come with a certain battery i have to charge?

2. Do the batteries last a while?

3. Do the videos have sound [either on the camera or just the computer] ?

4. Are the pictures good?

5. Does it take pictures quickly instead of having a delay?

6. any extra comments or opinions.

Thanks! i really need a camera because its summer & im traveling a lot!

  1. Sadly Sony memory sticks will only work with other Sony products.  The good news is the SD / SDHC cards used by the Coolpix (and many others) are selling in two pack 2GB cards for under $20.

Happily the S550 uses a Li-ion battery, so you can expect much better performance from it than the AA's that used to be so popular.

Li-ion batteries hold their charges longer and will last for years.

You will have to test the camera to know if the sound is up to your standards.  * "High Quality TV Movies with Sound is now just a press of a button away with your COOLPIX.  Record TV-Quality movies with sound whose duration is only limited by the available space on your SD/SDHC card.  Connect your camera to your TV and you have instant home-movies!" --- NikonUSA

If you have the skills, the photos will be amazing.

Shutter lag is just part of the P&S cameras ... you have to step up to a DSLR to get rid of that aspect of digital cameras.

  2. The Nikon Coolpix S550 packs 10-megapixels and a 5x optical zoom into a small, easy to use point and shoot. A 2.5-inch high-resolution LCD and Electronic Viewfinder makes reviewing images easy. The In-Camera Red-Eye Fix and the enhanced Face Priority Auto Focus ensures that every image comes out clear and crisp, while Electronic VR image stabilization. Now go get one....
