Nikon D100?

Question

I am a semi-serious amateur photographer, and have had a D100 since they came out in 2001.

Is it worth me selling a kidney to buy a D300, are there any single-kidneyed ex D100 users out there ?

Since I hope you get more than $1700 for your kidney, you may want to consider the $5,000 D3 .. in for a penny ...

All seriousness aside, I made the transition from the D100 (I still have one of them) to the D200 and three or four months ago to the D300.  It really is an amazing camera.  If you are going to pawn your favorite dog, get the MB-D10 and extra batter too.  It helps stabilize the camera when shooting with long lenses and adds another 1000 shots per battery charge ... and speeds up the continuous shooting rate too.
