  1. D300, or find a few more $ and go for the D700, which has a full frame sensor, and thus can make use of film lenses to their full potential.

    The D2X is more robust (it is pro-spec in terms of build, though the D300 is great too.) than the D300, but the D300 is newer, has more useful features, is a lot lighter.
