Question:

Nikon D40 Kit and Lens help???

I have recently decided that I would like to get a Nikon D40. I really want the 18-200mm VR lens to go with it. I have found a local store that has it for a good price and is in stock.

The Only problem with that is the D40 comes with a 18-55mm lens and the 18-200mm lens would replace it altogether.

I have looked at bodies only for the D40 by getting them used, but I ONLY want it NEW.

So my question is, What should I do with the 18-55mm lens because I dont need them?

I would like to sell them for a good price, so where can I sell them?

Please do not suggest Ebay.

I would like a place or site that will buy it from for a fixed price.

Also the 18-55mm lens dont come with its own box so I need a place where that doe not matter.

Please give thorough detail and good respected sites to check.

  1. The store can take the 18-55 mm lens out of the deal ... after all you are buying a $700 lens that covers the same focal lengths plus more.

What you should do with the 18-55 mm lens is reject it and buy the body only with the lens you choose ... photographers do this all the time.  Many times we buy bodies only because we already have all the lenses we need and are only adding a body to our system or upgrading to a new body.

Before you order on the Internet, talk to the manager (or owner) of the camera store and see if they will sell you the D40 and 18-200 mm VR sans 18-55 mm lens.

Check with B&H Photo ... I bought my last three cameras and two lenses from them.

  2. How about Craigslist?  Or if you have a pro camera store in your area, they will sometimes buy used lenses.  (Once you buy it, it will be considered used.)  Maybe the art department at a local university will have students looking for lenses.

  3. I just bought my Nikon D60 from Ritz.com and got a packaged deal with a 18-55 and 55-200 for only $800. Sometimes switching out the lenses is a pain but if you know where and what you need to shoot then you will hve no problems. I know that they carry the D40 bundle and you pay no tax and no shipping costs.

If you still want to go with your option of store bought, try selling it in a local newspaper or craigslist.

Hope everything works out and I know you'll love the camera. If you want you can check out my pics that I took with my D60 at www.flickr.com/photos/kelly.lokken

  4. i thought that the first time i buy my Nikon D40  with the 300 mm lens and the 18-200 mm lens i said to myself why do i need the 18-55 mm lens and i have the 18-200 mm lens but when i get started photographing i realize that i do need it so i put it in a very small bag that you can carry with you all the time because sometimes you will need it trust me dude you will need it

i know that you will think that no i will not need it but trust me you will

but with time you will know that

    anyway good luck with photography

  5. The New D40 Comes With A Lens

You Have To Pay For It..

Whether You Use It Or Not..

    You Can't Get A Body-Only Kit...

first off, in my opinion, you shouldn't get rid of the nikkor 18-55mm lens, it may be useful later when the 18-200mm brakes, which is possible, and at least you'll have another lens. oh, and you don't have to get the 55-200mm lens, you only need to get one lens. Since you HAVE to get one, get the 18-55mm lens, because it's the cheapest.

It doesn't come with a box, so you'll have to sell it as is, and that's not going to be really appealing to sellers, and it's not going to really look ' new ' , because new lenses come with their boxes, only not if you get them with a body, or , in a kit.

However, if you must sell the lens:

    sell it here..

    http://amazon.com

you can sell used and new stuff on that website, oh, and it's all safe, i shop photography stuff there all of the time.. =)
