This might be a verrrrrry stupid question, but I'm kind of new to this. But: can you put the lens of the Sony Alpha 200 (the 17-80mm lens) on the Nikon D40.

If yes, does it supports autofocus?

And... which lenses does it support?

the right lens to use on a nikon d40 is a AF-S lens. because the nikon d40 doesnt have a built in auto focus motor in it. and the AF-S lenses have the motor built in.

No, Sony and Nikon have their own proprietary mounts that's uncompatible, so you can't even mount the lenses from a Sony that's using the Minolta AF or A mount (Sony bought the Konica Minolta SLR division with all its patents) on a Nikon that uses their own F-mount, and vice versa. If you try to force the lenses you can cause damage to both the camera and the lens.

A total no here I'm afraid.

There are very few manufactorers of cameras sharing their lens mount, the only lens mount used by several camera manufactorers today is the Pentax KAF mount.

  3. No. Sony uses the old Minolta (A mount). Nikon uses their bayonet (F) mount. Besides,
