Nikon D40 vs Sony DSC-T300 which one will take better images. ?

I know that mega pixels don't matter ... so which camera would take the highest quality images?

  1. The Sony is a paperweight compared to the D40. fhotoace said it all.


  2. You have the pixel part right ... the most important part is the size of the sensor ... the Nikon's is huge  when compared to the Sony ... like 15 times larger.  

    Nikon's sensor size = 23.7 x 15.5 mm

    Sony's sensor size = 6.16 x 4.62 mm

    But perhaps the most important aspect if you shoot at high ISO's is the pixel density.

    Nikon = 1.6 MP/cm² which means much less noise.

    Sony = 35 MP/cm², nuff said.

    And the D40 has a much more sophisticated analog to digital converter and other electronics on board.

    So you can see the Nikon has the potential of producing much higher quality images by far.

    After you read this, you will understand that the potential of a camera for producing high quality images depends upon the photographer having the skills to use it.
