Question:

Nikon D40 w/ two lenses OR Canon Rebel XTi?

If you had a choice between a Canon Rebel XTi with its 18-55mm lense and a Nikon D40 with 2 lenses (the standard 18-55mm and the 55-200mm VR lense), which one would you choose to buy and why?

The prices are the same: $650 USD for either one (yes, that includes the 2 lenses with the Nikon). So I am having a hard time making up my mind.

The D40 did feel better in my hands and it is lighter.

Thanks!

  1. If you ask for value for money then go in for Canon and I dont see a much difference with two lenses as you can see the lens is extemely good in Canon and its not that heavy also. But if you talk about the personal choice then you should buy what makes youself comfortable in using. As I wanted to add more thing that its the man behind the machine that makes the difference and not the machine.

  2. I would get the XTi. I have the XT myself and I absolutely love it. The starter lenses you get with the camera will be fairly crappy, but sufficient, regardless whichever camera you get. So I wouldn't use that as a feature to worry about.

  3. canon vs nikon

if I remember correctly the xti has a larger image sensor than the d40 which makes it a better camera. but the real question is which you like better.

  4. It's a personal choice. They are both very capable cameras. My personal recommendation would be the D40 w/ the two lenses. If you are into landscape photography, you will end up with a system that is capable of delivering more.

Compare the capabilities of the two cameras side by side. See if anything jumps out at you that makes the canon body more appropriate for your needs. If not -- why not get the extra lens for the same money?
