I want to know which of these two ONLY is better in image quality, sharpness, (better performance and quality) in low light. The D60 is more recent than D80 so i don't know whether it's better. Can you please compare these two with each other and tell me what is bad and good in them? Is there a lot of difference in the colour and quality of the photos? I know that these two cameras are excellent but which do you think is better?

  1. Hey buddy,

I own a Nikon D60, so have I tested D40 to D80. Compared to D60 what D80 have is the image stabilization and extra focal points, that can add image clarity than D60 or ofcourse the previous ones.

Regarding night shots, D80 can help you shoot good shots at high ISO as much as D60 on a tripod (I used a normal Non VR lense). ISO range is same for both D80 and D60. They range from ISO 100 to ISO 3200(both cameras have this range of ISO). I am very happy with D60 as it was so cool when I got a noiseless image at 800 ISO (normally at high ISO image may contain noise of fine grains).

another thing about D60 is its weight, D80 is not that easy to carry stuff when compared to D60 (not too weighed any way ;-))

You can buy an additional lens for D60 for the same price of a Nikon D80.

D60 camera + D60 kit lense + any additional lense (extra) will cost almost equal to Nikon D80 Body + D80 kit lense

Altogether, I suggest you D60, but D80 is also not bad, if money is not a concern, u can go ahead with D80.

    :-)

  2. They are very similar in terms of image quality. But if you're interested in low light, you might want the D80 simply because you can use lenses like the 50mm f1.8 or the 85mm f1.8

These lenses work very well for low light situations because of their aperture. They will auto focus on the D80 but not on the D60. The D60 has limited lens compatibility in terms of auto focus. You won't need to kick the ISO as high with the D80 is you use those lenses.

  3. They use the same sensor. So put the same lens on them, and you should get exactly the same RAW picture. If you are going to rely on JPEG engine in the camera, then there are some differences. Those are all subjective calls.

  4. The D80 should perform better in low light situations.  It has a max ISO of 1600 (with good quality), while the D60 only has ISO 800.  If you are strictly talking about low light, go for the camera with the higher ISO range.

    Have fun and good luck.

  5. Well i have a D80, and its brilliant! i carnt really help you on the D60. but the D80  has good image quality and stuff, if you want to have a look at my pictures that i have taken, jus email me :)
