Nikon D60????

Hi. I'm thinking about buying the d60 but i have a small problem. I'm not sure if i should buy the package on amazon that has the 18-55 zoom lense that is 614.88...or the package on amazon that has the 18-55 zoom lense AND the 55-200 zoom lense that is 849.95.

I kno u think i should go with the package with both lenses. But The Nikon D80 on amazon is about $860 with 18-55 zoom lense and i kno that is better and i want it but the thing is its so heavy for me. Me being 13..lol. So if i got the package with 2 lenses i don't want to feel bad about not getting the nikon d80 it being only 20 dollars more.

So the main point is which package do u think i should get?

O and is the 18-55 zoom lense good enough..? How much better is the 18-55 zoom lense rather than a 3x zoom point and shoot camera? Do you think i'll be fine with just that lense?

  1. This is so funny - I just bought a D60 today.

If you want the 55-200 lens, BE CAREFUL where you get it. Today, I bought mine with the two lenses, and I had to make sure that they were both VR lenses (Vibration Resistant). I got them with several accessories, including a 2GB card, for around $800 (with no tax or shipping!) at buydig.com. Cheapest I could find the kit with both VR lenses - as you have already found out, everywhere else the kit is $850.

And if you want those two lenses, you MUST GET THEM IN THE NEXT HOUR. After that, the package bundle that Nikon is offering will be gone, and buying them separately will cost an additional $150.

Here's the link - better do it quick if you want the extra VR lens:

  2. The D60 comes with an 18-55 "VR" lens, but at a much higher price.  If this is the "VR" lens, the price is a real bargain – if it's the full kit with battery, charger, cords, software, etc., as it comes from Nikon.  Amazon is generally a trusted dealer.  $229 is exactly the price of a 55-200 "VR" lens if you buy it separately, so there's no bargin there.

To get an idea what the lenses will do for you, check this out: http://www.flickr.com/photos/samfeinstei...

The 18-55 will cover the whole range shown by the first 4 frames, including of course, every in-between focal length that I have not shown.  It is infinitely variable.  The 55-200 will pick up where the 18-55 leaves off and covers the next 3 frames (4 altogether).  My demo shows 50 mm, but that is pretty close to the same as 55 mm in coverage.

If size is an issue, stick to the D60.  They are due to replace the D80 any day now and it might make you feel like you have old technology if you get a D80 and it's upgraded almost immediately.  The D60 is brand new.

I just clicked on the ad to the right of this answer which is a link to Amazon's D60 sale.  It shows the "VR" lens on the camera, which makes the price really a great deal.  It says, "Supplied Accessories Strap, Body Cap, Eyepiece Cap, USB Cable, Quick Charger (MH-23)w/ AC adapter, Rechargeable Li-ion Battery (EN-EL9), Accessory shoe cover, Lens cap, Software CD-Rom, Quick Start Guide, Instruction Manual, Warranty and Registration card," which means it is the full factory kit.  This is a really good deal.
