Nikon d60, d40,or d40x?

Question

Ive been looking for a camera to buy and i have came to these three. what are your opinions on them, and what makes them different from each other?

this would be my first slr camera.

You have two choices

* Pick the least expensive one (the D40)  and spend the savings on more lenses.

* Pick the one with the latest in technology (the D60) and the included lens, the AF-S, ED 18-55 mm VR lens

In either case you will have an excellent camera and will be able to enjoy it for years.
