    * Lightning fast AF with 2 very good & light Zuiko kit lenses

  3. Hi Hopeful,

      Good question.

If you are serious about a professional level camera,  you are going to want the Nikon as Nikon has been making professional model cameras for 50 or so years...  Olympus is somewhat behind in that arena. When you say professional,  it is assumed that you mean digital SLR.  Nikon makes a huge selection of lenses to choose from as well as accessories to go with camera and lens.

Many professional photographers, including those on this board use Nikon (and Canon for that matter) because of their experience with the brand including quality and craftsmanship.   It is a matter of opinion and preference, but Nikon has a great reputation and I think you would be satisfied with it.

Though that is my opinion,  you should go in to a camera sales facility and handle both of the cameras for yourself.   Ask questions that are important to you and see if one of the two cameras meets or suits your needs better.    I do know people who have used Olympus digital SLRs and liked them.  I also know of one professional award winning photographer who used Olympus for 3 years then switched to Canon.

So.. it is your choice.    Shopping for cameras is fun anyway.

    Thanks for reading.

  4. Go for olympus - the new one has a preview feature in an SLR - the first of its kind

  5. Both are good - flick a coin!

  6. I agree with you that the Olympus, especially the Evolt E-510 is a better all around camera than a Nikon D40 or D40x.  And you can purchase an Olympus Evolt E-510 with two lenses for $675 at samys.com.

    Good luck!

  7. go for Nikon because its much better than Olympus and i am quite sure.

  8. Olympus is just as good as Nikon. And Olympus has been making cameras since 1936, more than 70 years! Olympus cameras tend to be considered a better value since you can get more features and more advanced features than competitor cameras for less money. I have an Olympus E-300 and an E-510. The quality is great. Friends who have other brands were surprised, they fell for the hype that only Nikon and Canon make good cameras. It's simply not true. You can get an Olympus E-510 for about the same money as a Nikon D40 and you get more features. I personally like the image stabilization in the camera body, it works with all the lenses, even my T mount manual lens. Also, many of the Nikon D40 kit lenses are manual focus, not so with Olympus. And Olympus designed it's DSLR cameras to be digital from the ground up, the only company to do that. Olympus offers a full range of digital lenses that will cover all your needs. Nikon does have more lenses available. Keep in mind that once you start, you can keep your lenses and other accessories as you upgrade the camera body, keeping future costs lower, if you stay in the same camera brand. As someone already posted, flip a coin if you must, you can't go wrong with either brand.

  9. Nikon is the way to go !
