Young Bundesliga sensation Nils Petersen wants to make a name for himself at Allianz-Arena with Bayern Munich
The former Energie Cottbus striker, Nils Petersen, recently revealed his desire to make a strong statement at Allianz-Arena, also wishing to get more experience under his belt as long he stays with Bayern.
Petersen was talking in the wake of his team’s upcoming league game against VfB Stuttgart. Both teams are due to lock horns on Sunday, December 11, at Mercedes-Benz-Arena.
The striker is expected to take a part in the game, as Mario Gomez is likely to miss out due to flu-like symptoms. The 23-year-old also started the Champions League game against Manchester City, which the Reds lost by a 2-0 margin on Wednesday.
Petersen told that he would like to get more opportunities under his belt in order to furnish his skills and impress Joachim Low for a Germany call-up. He added that Bayern are rich in class and is difficult to cement a place in the starting XI.
He expressed satisfaction at his current role at the club, but demanded more opportunities from his manager with the passage of time. The attacker told that he doesn’t have any regrets in leaving Cottbus as there is a lot to learn at Bayern for any player
and only the lucky ones get the opportunity to play for Germany’s most successful club.
While talking exclusively to Goal.com, the former Germany U-19 player further mentioned:
“I'd be lying if I were to say that I will forever be satisfied with my current situation. There is still potential for improvement, which I would like to use in the next year.”
"During the the pre-season I played six out of seven games, and I played often early in the season. For example, I was in the starting line-up against Schalke. Recently I have not been allowed to play so often, that's sad. But we have a lot of good players
who all have a claim to playing time.” Petersen concluded.
Ever since landing at Allianz-Arena, the player has managed only seven league appearances, netting two goals in return.
Should Mario Gomez fail to recover for Sunday’s game, Petersen is highly likely to get another chance despite the presence of Ivica Olic in the ranks.
