The former Energie Cottbus striker is targeting a breakthrough season with Werder Bremen and wants to cement his place in the starting line-up.
Nils Petersen joined Werder Bremen on-loan this summer and will spend the next season at the Weserstadion in a bid to get regular first team football. The player opted to move after Bayern Munich signed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Claudio-Pizarro-c9324 and Mario
Mandzukic in this summer’s transfer window to bolster their attack.
The striker knew that a stay at Allianz Arena would have been a mistake as the likes of Mario Gomez, Mario Mandzukic and Claudio Pizarro were all ahead of him in the pecking order. He opted for a move to Bremen where there will
be much more opportunities for him to show his full potential.
Petersen claimed that he wants to play as many games as possible and admitted that his main aim would be to give his all for the team. He wants to play regular first team football which he missed at Bayern Munich last season.
“If possible I want to play in all 34 league games and help the team. I don't care if that's by scoring goals, giving assists or helping out in defence. I didn't believe in myself enough around players like Gomez, [Ivica] Olic
or [Thomas] Muller,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The player made only nine league appearances for the Bavarian giants last season and scored two times in the process. He is keen to establish himself as a first team player and wants to find the net regularly to prove his mettle.
“I'm going to Bremen to come back even stronger. I'm even hungrier to score now - goals are my biggest hobby,” he continued.
On the other hand, the striker denied comparisons with Mario Gomez and insisted that he needs to work hard to reach the potential of the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VfB-Stuttgart-c40879 man.
“People compare me a lot with Gomez. We have much the same abilities but he is a lot more athletic. I'm trying to build up my strength,” Petersen concluded.
Werder Bremen will start their Bundesliga campaign against defending champions Borussia Dortmund on August 24.
