Niluka Karunaratne demolishes Yan Kit Chan in quarter-final clash at Austrian International
Sri Lanka’s best player Niluka Karunaratne continued his roller-coaster run and reached into Men’s Singles semi-final after crushing Hong Kong’s Yan Kit Chan in quarter-final clash at Austrian International Challenge 2013 on Friday, February 22, in Austria.
The higher ranked Niluka, who is the second seed in Men’s Singles draw of the Austrian International, remained confident in the arena and managed to overpower the fifth seeded Yan Kit in a convincing manner in just 32 minutes.
Niluka was aggressive in his approach in quarter-final battle and he remained in complete command of rallies all the way. He did not face any trouble in finishing up the match in straight games with a crushing 21-14 and 21-13 score on the board.
The lower ranked Yan Kit, on the other hand, failed to live up to expectations as he could not play attacking and positive badminton at any stage of the match and eventually crashed out without proving his worth.
Niluka delivered extremely well from the initial rallies of first set as he played with wonderful speed and grabbed the charge of rallies.
The lofty skills and tricky strategy helped Niluka to keeps his opponent in all sorts of problem on court. He was in commanding position all the way to set up a remarkable lead until the end of first part.
The impressive Niluka remained comfortable in the arena after the one-minute interval as he played in the similar fashion. His positive and aggressive play assisted him to clinch the first set with a reasonable margin of 21-14.
Things were identical in the second game of this entertaining battle as Niluka played in the similar attacking way.
Niluka displayed his incredible skills on court by taking the bird timely from all areas and maintained his upper hand over his opponent.
The incredible Niluka continued putting up comfortable show in the ending half of second game and remained successful in winning the game with a staggering 21-13 margin on score board.
In the semi-final battle, Niluka will take on Japan’s young shuttler Kento Momota who showed exit to Czech Republic’s Pets Koukal in the other quarter-final encounter.
