Nina Keijzer, Anneloes Van Veen win International 470 Junior European Championship Women’s title
Women’s fleet of International 470 Junior European Championship had a very close medal race encounter on the final day of the event at Nieuwpoort in Belgium. The top two contenders from Netherlands and Germany had a close sail in the Medal Race to claim
the title but luckily the Dutch team comprising of Nina Keijzer and Anneloes Van Veen won the title with 41 points.
The weather conditions were superb for sail on the final day. The Women fleet was unclear without any guarantee of the result before the Medal Race. The top three contenders had a close competition in the Medal Race but a sixth place in the race was enough
for the previous leaders, Keijzer and Van Veen, to claim the Women’s title with 41 points.
While speaking to the local media after the victory, Keijzer said, “It has been great. This is really special for us. We had lots of bad luck in the past year with injuries and other things. The good thing is that we are good with heavy winds and we showed
that with steady conditions and lights winds we are there as well and these conditions were steady enough for us.”
She added, “In Medemblik it was difficult as it was changing a lot. We have missed some experience in 470 because we haven't sailed for about seven to eight months.”
On the other hand, Bochmann and Lorenz grabbed the silver medal after finishing second with 46 points while Tina Lutz and Susann Beucke of Germany clinched bronze after scoring 49 points.
