Nine home matches highlight the 2012 schedule of Racers – Volleyball News
The Murray State University women’s volleyball team, which has the official mascot of Racers, has a great opportunity to make an impact in the 2012 season with nine homes matches.
In the light of recently announced schedule, the regular season of Racers will start off on coming Friday. It will feature three non-conference tournaments and nine home matches for Murray State volleyball squad.
The 2012 curtain will be raised with the opening of IPFW Invitational, which is scheduled to take place from August 24-25. Fort Wayne, Ind. will provide the backdrop for exciting season opener, while Racers will meet Kent State, hosts Mastodons, and Cleveland
State.
Next up, the MSU Racers will take part in the Radford Tournament from August 31 to September 4. Third and last regular tournament of the year will be held in Morgantown West Virginia on September 9. Thereafter, the Racers will appear in the conference matches.
David Schwepke will perform his duties as the head coach of the team, while 2012 edition of the Racers will have three seniors, two sophomores, three juniors, a transfer and six freshmen players in the team. Lydia [Orf] will have the great duty in the shoes
of team captain. She is currently enjoying a top form and has great many plans for upcoming matches. Speaking of the captain, Schwepker said: “Most of the players came back in great shape. Lydia [Orf], our captain, is always in great shape, but really came
in to camp in even better shape this season, setting a great example for the rest of the team.”
Before the start of regular season, team has already kicked off the campaign with full day practices, which include athletic testing, basic skill reviews and help from the pictures.
“They are all working really, really hard right now and that is what I like to see in all players, especially my new athletes. Right now, we are taking it a little easy; just to make sure we don't have any injuries or overdo it at the beginning of the season.
So far, though, I am pretty impressed with what they are doing,” said Schwepker.
The current set of players in the team has significant height. Average height of the players is 5-foot-9, while six players come in at 5-foot-10 or above. It will surely serve as a competitive edge for Races in the 2012 season. Moreover, the Racers are determined
to take full advantage of the familiar conditions during nine home matches.
