Ningrum Tike Arieda stuns Liu Xin (F) in first round at Indonesia Open GP Gold Badminton 2012
Indonesia’s young and talented player Ningrum Tike Arieda showed her tremendous skills and created an upset by defeating the top seeded Liu Xin (F) of China in Women’s Singles first round at Indonesia Open GP Gold Badminton 2012 in Indonesia, on Wednesday, September 26.
The impressive Ningrum, who is un-seeded player in Women’s Singles main draw, showed a remarkable performance as she put up spectacular show of aggressive and positive badminton and overpowered her higher ranked Chinese rival in 51 minutes.
Ningrum surprised everyone by showing her impressive craft as she played with wonderful aggression and emerged as the winner by finishing off the contest in three games.
On the other hand, the World Number 17 and top seed Liu Xin was shocked with the severe treatment that she received from her local challenger.
Chinese player tried her best but failed to put up strong show and eventually crashed out at the opening round of the tournament.
The first set of this battle was surprising as Ningrum showed a great performance by taking the bird early from all areas and she remained far ahead until the mid-game interval.
Ningrum remained consistent in her positive play after the break without sparing any chance for her rival of fighting back into the game.
Indonesian shuttler remained successful in taking the first game with a huge margin of 21-13.
The second game was different as the higher ranked Liu Xin played with tremendous precision and managed to remain in lead until the end of opening half.
After the break, Ningrum tried her best to tackle the aggression of her Chinese rival and ultimately lost the set with a comfortable 15-21 score on the board.
In the deciding set, Ningrum again controlled the affairs of the game by accelerating her speed and took a reasonable lead in the first half.
Ningrum continued playing killing badminton after the break and she remained successful in snatching the deciding set with a one-sided score of 21-13.
The lofty Ningrum won this opening round contest in an inspiring fashion by putting up a 21-13, 15-21 and 21-13 score on the board.
