Nino Schurter commented on Olympics Medal
Nino Schurter, Jaroslav Kulhavy and Marco Fontana fought for the Olympics gold medal at the mountain bike event.
Nino had to settle for the Silver as Kulhavy grabbed the gold after beating the Swiss with Marco Montana securing the bronze.
The Swiss is best known for his performances during the 2009 World Championships and the 2010, 2012 UCI World Cup where he nailed the top overall spot defeating the race favourites.
He holds three gold and three silver medals after his tremendous performances in the past but his goal of winning the gold at Olympics remains unfulfilled.
His Olympics win came during the 2008 Beijing Olympics where he managed to get his hands on the bronze during the Men’s cross-country event.
While commenting on his performance in London he briefed that winning the gold has always been his dream and he was positive to claim the top spot considering the strong Team Switzerland line-up.
"Up until 200 meters before the finish it was my perfect race," said Schurter.
"Everything went superb. I was able to ride at my best. I had no critical moments. It all looked so good for me, I was sure I would win!"
"After he passed me and I thought I could still catch him on the final straight, but it was too short."
He was in tears after missing out on gold but he later on accepted the fact that winning the silver at the Olympics is nevertheless, an achievement after all.
"Looking back now, I think we saw one of the most exciting races in mountain bike history," said Schurter.
The cyclist launched his attack right from the start of the race and sees nothing wrong with his strategy.
He was certain of winning the race right through the end but an attack in the final 200 metres by Jaroslav Kulhavy ruined his chances of the gold.
“It's not easy to come in second after a performance like this but I have to accept it," he cited.
Schurter is now eyeing the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and he aims to fulfil his dream of winning the Olympics gold at the coming event.
