Ninomiya/ Ozaki take down Jabeur/ Uytvanck in the Girls’ Doubles quarterfinal – French Open 2011
Another ejection for the top seed players at Roland Garros on Thursday, as the Japanese duo of Makoto Ninomiya and Risa Ozaki dispensed out the number three seed team of Ons Jabeur of Tunisia and Alison Van Uytvanck of Belgium
in the quarter-final of the Girls’ doubles category.
The contest took place in Paris, France, with the Japanese pair easing their way to the semi-finals after registering three-set thrilling victory at 6-3, 6-7(6), 12-10.
Ninomiya and Ozaki took one hour and thirty seven minutes to wrap up victory over the third seed pair in the Grand Slam event. The Japanese pair has been outstanding so far in the tournament, winning two of their opening round
matches in straight sets and continued to impress everyone in the quarter-final clash as well.
Ninomiya and Ozaki drew first blood by bagging the first set of the match in the opening 32 minutes to get the early advantage in the game. A tremendous comeback from Jabeur and Van Uytvanck in the very next set levelled the contest,
enforcing a decisive third set. After a stiff contest in the decider, the Japanese duo finally wound up victory to make it to the final four teams in the competition.
Jabeur and Van Uytvanck had their opportunities in the game but they squandered them away carelessly to remain at a disadvantage. The third seeded pair appeared sloppy at the start of the game but recovered very well in the second
set to bounce back in the competition. Jabeur and Van Uytvanck competed very well in the decider and hung in the game till the end, before submitting the matchup to their Japanese opponents.
Ninomiya and Ozaki converted four of their eight break chances in the game en route to victory, while their opponents cashed in three out of their 10 break points. The Japanese got hold of the game in the opening set, striking
two serve breaks to cruise to set point at 5-3 and served out of the first set to get one up in the contest.
Tide turned in the very next set as Jabeur and Van Uytvanck came out firing at their opponents, breaking their serve twice. The Japanese duo replied with the same and took the scores to 6-6, enforcing a tie breaker round, which
Jabeur and Van Uytvanck won to level the competition with one set a piece.
It all came down to the decider and Ninomiya and Ozaki stood to the task, defeating their opponent at 12-10 to book a date with the duo of Victoria Kan and Demi Schuurs in the semi-final draws of the French Open.
