Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation 3 see massive increase in sales
According to recent reports, Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation 3 have gone on to notice an above average rise in their sales, over the course of the last few days. A United States based games retailer, GameStop, went on to conduct a minor research and have revealed
their findings.
President of GameStop, Tony Bartel, when talking about the change in trend of sales of these two consoles, is quoted to have said, “In terms of recent trends, clearly, we've had two major events recently with the price drop on the 3DS and the recent price
drop on the PS3 platform.”
He then went on to further elaborate and state, “That has seen a significant increase in the rate of sale of those platforms, as you would expect. So we see that as a good barometer for what is going to take place in terms of the installed base in the back
half of the year.”
The Nintendo 3DS was the first console to go ahead and witness a massive price drop. On August 11, the handheld had started to be retailed for as little as a hundred Great Britain Pounds. At first, it was unclear as to why Nintendo had taken such a bold
move, but it has now become apparent that the company were just trying to sell out as many units as possible.
On the other hand, Sony followed in the footsteps of Nintendo and then went on to display massive cuts to PlayStation 3 and were selling it for as little as two hundred and fifty dollars, while the 300GB version had been put up for three hundred dollars
and now comes with a copy of Infamous 2.
All in all, Sony seem to have struck gold with this plan and are now meeting the Xbox 360 sales, which were previously well beyond them.
Nonetheless, this trend of sales is also more than likely to get Sony to re-think their pricing of the Son Vita. The Sony handheld is said to be made available worldwide for a price of around $250, and is going to be on par with PlayStation 3. As a result,
Sony might be jeopardising the sales of their own product, not due to their competition, but due to their inability to price things better.
