Nintendo Wii Fit - Is it Worth It?

Yuppies everywhere with childhood notions of Packman and Marble Madness stormed the shelves for the Ninentendo Wii Fit earlier this year. Now, months after its initial release, the Wii Fit is still hard to find online, and the actual stores you can find it in have jacked up the price. So my question to you is the Nintendo Wii Fit - is it worth it? Have any of you gotten fitter using it? Tell, tell.

  1. It is worth it. You get in better shape with it.

  2. Yes, it might not make you lose weight but you sure will be active and maybe fitter. It helps you become fitter, and measures your bmi index and charts your progress with weight differences.

It also has many games like balance games such as skiing and snowboarding. You can do a free run or a musical step game. Its pretty good even it doesn't do any help with your body. Its much better than sitting on a couch and playing shooting games.

  3. I dont think I have got fitter but I have improved my balance and I think it is great fun.  Definately worth buying!  It is so much better than sitting on the sofa playing some game, because your active!

  4. well i lost wight playing DDR i think you brun more fat doing DDR

  5. It seems like I answer this question every day.

Yes, for most people it's worth it.

It is NOT worth it for someone who just wants a great game and who's willing to put up with some exercise in the process.  There are much better pure games out there!

It's also not worth it for someone who's already an athlete or a gym bunny.  Wii fit is all about the light exercise, which means an already buff person won't have much use for it.

Finally, it's not worth it if you shelve it a few days or weeks later and let it collect dust, but it's hard to say who will do that and who won't.  Plenty of people with cobwebs on their stairmaster and dust on billy's bootcamp DVD are still using Wii Fit months later.

I'm really glad you asked if we'd gotten fitter instead of asking if we'd lost weight.  Yes, I got fitter--twice!  I used it for a week before a major injury.  I didn't use it alone, either.  In nice weather I try to walk, cycle, and skate as much as possible, and the tracker in Wii Fit was a great motivator.  The medical professionals said the muscle mass I put on in just that week made a big difference in how quickly I was able to get back on my feet.

Once I was allowed to start exercising again, the Wii Fit had all the "light aerobics, torso twists, toe-touches, side bends and stretches" my doc ordered.  Having them on the console made it a lot easier and more rewarding to do every day or nearly every day, and I've gained four pounds of muscle back in a month!

I look better and I'm exercising more than usual.  Plus, exercising in my living room has never been more fun.  Heck yeah it's worth it!

I also do DDR and Helix for gamer fitness. :-P  They're good cardio, and about as painless/fun as the Wii Fit . . . meaning, not the best game you'll ever play in your life, but definitely more fun than skipping rope and doing pushups in your basement!

  6. Yes, it is worth it. You set a goal on how many pounds you want to loose (or gain) in 2 weeks or more. There are fun games,  yoga, aerobics strengthening exercises. I do believe it is worth buying.

  7. Definiately worth it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

  8. yes. I have the wii and i love it. It is so cool to be able to go skiing in the summer! tennis in the winter. Me and my sister play it all the time.
