Batman: Arkham City, Mass Effect 3 and Ninja Gaiden confirmed.
Nintendo is looking to attract more core gamers onto the Wii U as it looks to tap into the market currently controlled by the Xbox 360 and the Sony PlayStation 3.
Instead of holding their E3 Press Conference first, Nintendo opted to save their media presentation till the 5th of June – a day after Sony, Microsoft, Ubisoft and EA had gone ahead with unveiling their plans to the world.
While the Nintendo Press Conference held everyone’s interest many have labelled it as ‘underwhelming’. However, there were a number of triple-A titles announced throughout the conference including some major franchises.
Mass Effect 3 was one those titles announced and one that Nintendo will be hoping to attract the core gaming segment.
John Riccitiello, the Chief Executive Officer of Electronic Arts, stated, "We looked at the Wii U launch line-up yesterday and we're very pleased there was a lot of applause for ME3, in fact I think it got one of the loudest applauses, so we're pleased that people see it as the single best piece of software that's been announced for the platform."
Another third party game that is set to be one of the first titles available on the Wii U is Rocksteady’s immersive dive into the DC comic world of Batman as Batman: Arkham City is set to be beefed up with an Armour Edition and launched on the console.
The final third party title announced that had heads spinning was Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge. The game will also receive a number of enhanced features and extra content for its Wii U launch including six new weapons among other in-game goodies that are set to make the game one of the bloodiest experiences in the series yet.
Ubisoft also announced a first-person shooter post-zombie apocalypse game that stood out during the show. ZombiU not only allows gamers the chance to survive a zombie apocalypse but it also allows a person to see himself zombified in real time thanks to the controller’s in-built camera.
However, analysts still think that the console needs a standout game or app to really sell the console even despite the fact that Assassin’s Creed 3 would be released on the console as well.
