Epic Games’ Vice President, Mark Rein, believes that the console may be a year late, but it still could be a success if its iconic software (read, ‘games’) backs it up.
The first part of the article looked at how the gaming community was expecting the major platform developers to reveal their next generation hardware at E3 later on this year. Although Sony and Microsoft deny having any plans to do so, there is plenty of ‘evidence’ on the internet and from analysts that suggest otherwise.
Mark Rein, the Vice President of Epic Games, also helped build up some hype for the return of Nintendo’s Wii U to the event and he expects that the console will surprise many upon its second coming.
However, Rein continued his analysis of the console when he stated that Wii U is just hardware designed to cater to the software needs of the brands that Nintendo is so well known for. He explained, “It’s a great brand that a lot of parents really trust and they’re probably ready to buy their kids an HD Wii that does that much more than just being an HD Wii.”
Rein was commenting on the reputation the Wii made for itself as it was mostly catering to the needs of the casual gamers and less towards the hardcore segment. He also acknowledged the fact that Nintendo may be releasing the console a year late but felt that even despite the ‘delay’ the Wii U would still be a success.
“I’d love it if they’d done it last year, but I’, excited for them to do it this year. I’d be shocked if it doesn’t do well.”
Rein also expressed his fondness for Battle Mii and claimed that the game would persuade him to purchase the Wii U on its own and that gamers should expect plenty of surprises at this year’s E3.
“I would buy a Wii U to play that game (Battle Mii) in a heartbeat. And I hope people make those kinds of games with our technology. I think we’ve yet to really see what the Wii U can do and I think at E3 this year they’re going to shock us.”
