Does getting the internet this way allow you all the same internet functions as wireless and LAN?

Yeah. It does the same functions ecxept its only by a wireless connection and I would prefer wireless.

I bought a USB adapter about 2 years ago. It's discontinued now. You have to install a program to your computer (it comes with a cd) and then plug in the adapter. Your computer must be logged in and kept on as long as you're playing online. It works like any other wireless but only for wii and ds. After a while it starts breaking down and getting junky. If you want to save a few bucks get it, but if you can add a little more for a wireless router it's 100% recommended
