Nintendo all set to introduce the much-needed Wii U into the market
The gaming industry is said to be staring at very dark times in the not-so-distant future, with the extended life-cycle of current-generation consoles getting the blame.
Majority of the analysts are of the opinion that since the gaming giants such as Sony and Microsoft are stubbornly backing PlayStation and Xbox 360 respectively, the experience on offer is becoming rather monotonous and therefore causing the gamers to start
exploring other options.
There is one company, however, which has responded to the situation without wasting a great deal of time.
Nintendo, which has been committed to providing family entertainment for over two decades, has one again stepped forward to give the world what it has been anxiously waiting and desperately calling out for, a next-generation console.
Wii U is the Japan-based company’s response to the demand and need of a new console in the market, promising to inject a significant amount of fresh and creativity into a market seemed to be filled with various single-person shooters and same old franchises
with plenty of titles, as if the publisher is looking to milk them as much as possible.
Nintendo, however, seems to have decided to bring this outrageous monotony existing in the market.
All set to introduce a unique tablet controller called GamePad to the gamers, Wii U looks to redefine gaming and remind people that playing games on consoles can still be fun and entertaining.
The next-generation console by Nintendo is going to be making its way into the North American market on November 18, before getting launched in Europe and Australia on November 30 and finally in Japan on December 8.
Arriving with 23 launch titles, which include a number of popular third-party games, the up-coming console seems to be on the right track leading to success.
Nintendo’s press conference during Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) earlier this year in Los Angeles had failed to impress gamers, even those who had been staying loyal to the company for years, giving it preference over even the likes of PlayStation 3
and Xbox 360.
The company had believed that throwing a new Mario and Pikmin game at the public would be enough to entice them and get them excited.
However, that is not how things turned out, with a significant amount of gamers failing to get impressed by the Mario game, while plenty of gamers raising a question regarding the absence of other renowned franchises from the list of launch titles, which
included Zelda and Metroid.
The reaction of Nintendo of America’s president Reggie Fils-Aime following E3 was a clear enough evident of the fact that the company had not expected the public to show such a low amount of enthusiasm.
However, rather than getting concerned and paying little attention to all the pessimistic predictions regarding the console’s performance in the market, Nintendo continued to remain focused on adding appeal to its next-generation console.
Winning the confidence of third-party developers is one of the best things to have happened to Nintendo during the year, with the likes of Ubisoft and BioWare confirming Assassin’s Creed III and Mass Effect 3: Special Edition as launch titles for the new
console.
The third-party support also enabled Nintendo to delay some of its high-profile games to 2013, which is eventually going to have a positive on its sales.
The fear of Wii U losing its popularity once Sony and Microsoft announce their high-end consoles is not completely without merit, though one cannot rule out the possibility of the console managing to hold its own because of its exclusive titles such as Zelda,
Metroid, Star Fox and Nintendo Land.
