Nintendo president optimistic about company’s image in public – Gaming news
Nintendo’s president Satoru Iwata believes that the views of public about the company will change when its next-generation console Wii U is understood better by them.
While speaking with the Guardian, he admitted that so far, the company has struggled to communicate the novelty of Wii U, which has resulted in a somewhat underwhelming response of the public to its new console.
The company had faced little difficulty in communicating the novelty of Wii to gamers at its time of release, which had resulted it in becoming a commercial success.
Iwata is convinced that while the start for Wii U has not been great, Nintendo will be able to turn things around going forward through the release of more software titles, which will consequently help gamers to really become aware of the experience that the console is capable of delivering.
"So, what we really need to do now is to launch software titles for the Wii U that can take advantage of its unique aspects, one after the other," Iwata said. "So much so that a great number of people are able to touch the Wii U and feel how unique it is. We need to expand the number of such people. And once the number of people has reached critical mass, I think the public view of Nintendo will be changed."
The company has been acknowledging the fact for quite some time now that it needs to release more AAA titles for its high-end console in order to get the gamers interested in it.
The industry analysts have also been stressing on the necessity of releasing new Mario and Zelda games to get the console going.
A number of high-profile titles are going to be releasing this year. Pikmin 3 will be coming out in August, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD is slated for an October release, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is due in November, while Super Mario 3D World will be out in the final month of this year.
A brand new Legend of Zelda title for the Wii U has been in the pipeline for some time now, though Iwata did not provide any details about it. He simply stated that the company will make a “relevant announcement” about the game in the near future.
