Nintendo’s Wii-U release to be around Black Friday – Video Games Update
The latest rumour about Nintendo’s Wii-U release date suggests that Nintendo’s next generation console is likely to hit the market during the week of Black Friday this year.
It seems that Nintendo has picked the best time to launch its new console as the week after Thanksgiving is when everyone goes out for Christmas shopping because of the huge discounts. If the rumour is true, Nintendo is hoping to cash in with the Wii brand
throughout the remaining year.
Black Friday this year falls on November 30 and that means that Nintendo will be capitalising on the shopping rush. A leaked Gamestop list reveals that there will be 27 launch titles for the Wii-U. The launch title list for the Wii-U includes
many popular games like Mass Effect 3, Zombie-U, Batman: Arkham City Armoured Edition, Assassin’s Creed 3, Alien: Colonial Marines and FIFA 13.
This list comes as an assurance to Wii-U fans that Nintendo will not have a poor launch and the gamers who decide to get a Wii-U at launch will have a nice selection of games to choose from. Then there is also the fact that the Wii-U has full backwards compatibility
with the Wii and gamers will have some use for the new hardware even if they don’t like any of the launch titles.
The fact that currently there is no announcement for a Wii-U version of the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops II might hurt the console sales as the most popular first person shooter (FPS) will only be available for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.
Analysts believe that Call of Duty will be dominating video game sales this year so this might come as a huge blow to Nintendo if the FPS doesn’t get a Wii-U version before the console launches. There are also rumours that Sony has been manufacturing a super-slim
version of the PlayStation 3 which will be released alongside Nintendo Wii-U as Sony hopes to gain from the Wii-U hype and move many PlayStation 3 units since it will probably be the cheapest console available.
The leaked Gamestop list for the Wii-U launch titles also shows that most of the titles are heavily discounted. Many of the games on the list will be sold for around $49.99. This holiday will be very important for Nintendo as it might make or break the upcoming
console.
