Nissan 300zx front license plate

Question

i just bought a nissan 300zx. is it illegal to not have a front license plate. i live in california and the guy who i bought it from is also from california. he told me that he only got 1 license plate from the dmv and he told me he would always drive without the plate in the front and he never got pulled over for it. he said that they told him at the dmv that the state says you should have a plate in the front but it isnt required ......

Ca DMV issued 2 plates for the vehicle.

In Ca it is illegal to only have one plate. I know form experence(ticket).

on the 350z there should be a front lic. plate holder assembly / bracket assembly.   Working at a nissan dealer, they(sales dept.), dont want us putting one on unless requested by the customer. Where the plate is or went, who knows?  Youl need to go to dmv for new plates if you want one on the front.

I find it hard to believe he was only issued one. Although its not required to have both in most states, they still issue 2. I have 2 for my z but I only use one in the rear and its never been an issue
