I know that I do not flush and drain my engine coolant till I hit 5 years or 50,000 miles. I have had my car for 2 years and less than 20,000 miles but my engine coolant is low. So what do I do now ? Top it off with 50/50 antifreeze coolant or fill it up with regular coolant ? thanks

  1. I recommend to nissan coolant because, that stuff is different from what you will see at autozone. The original nissan stuff is dark green. Nissan was serious about there coolant. now for the reservoir 50/50 is good. Then at 30k mile service, they are going to flush the system out.

  2. Take your car to the dealer and let them top off your fluid with the same type of factory fill coolant that Nissan uses. You don't want to mix types and s***w something up as there are too many different types of coolant out there on the market. Most dealerships will top off your fluids when you are having your oil changed and they will check your fluids and top them off in between the changes for free. If you have a good dealership they will probably add a few ounces of the right coolant and send you on your way for free.

  3. fill it up with 50/50 but if it is that low you probly have a leak so check the hoses going to the rad and the cap

  4. FYI     I never flush my engine coolant(not unless I am doing something major like a head  gasket change or a motor overhaul.

That was in the days of the old V8's and straight 6's of yesteryear in the cast iron blocks, and rubber hoses.

With alunumum blocks, neoprene hoses and lifelong coolant  it is less of a need.  Add water or add 50/50 add coolant - do what your heart desires.   Note:  water is what evaporates or boils out over time.

Pure coolant is not the best thing for the motor as it will freeze(overheat) before a 50/50 mixture will.

Best you check the tightness of all the hose clamps to be sure that coolant isn't seeping out there when under pressure.(everytime the engine is running for 15 minutes)

  5. either way is ok.... its just you want to know the right kind you dont want to mix say green with red.... 50/50 is for lazy people who dont know how much water to add but if your just toping off either will work just fine... and even water will work to top off if you dont have antifreeze... better than not having it run hot... here you will find many good ways to keep your car running or to make repairs

  6. under any circumstance, the coolant should never get low under 5 years. you have a leak in your coolant  system. find out where the leak is and get it fixed before you get stranded. .
