Question:

Nissan Sentra? Good Car For First Time Buyer?

I'm thinking of buying a 1998 Nissan Sentra for myself. It's $1,495 CDN. Are Nissan's reliable? Is this a good car for a first time buyer? The car has a bit of rust, but otherwise in good condition. I live in Canada and am looking for a cheap car to buy. I have my G1 now and am getting my G2 this November. Should I wait until I get my G2 before buying a car? My family and I only have a minivan now, and a car would be better for myself to drive around. What are some more cars that would be good for a first time buyer? I'm looking for something around $2,000-$3,000. I'd be able to pay off the Nissan by the end of November.

  1. Yes.

All Japanese cars are generally reliable.

The Sentra is one of Nissan's most reliable cars.

The Mazda Protege and Miata(MX-5) are Mazda's most reliable cars.

Usually, the smaller cars are more reliable. That is what I noticed.

If you are looking to finance and pay in monthly payments, i think you need at least 3 lines of credit to do that. By that I mean 3 credit cards. And you need time to build up your credit.

It is better to wait for the G2.

  2. Nissans make a very reliable car. I have an '03 Maxima with 108,000 mi. and not one repair other than normal wear items..

  3. nah.  its no good. try a koenigsegg.

or a bugatti veyron if thats not your type.

  4. I had a Nissan Sentra while in my 30's, and it was probably the most reliable car I'd ever had. Didn't use oil, great on gas.

That said, be sure to check the VIN number, and the carfax report to find out about any wrecks, etc. that may have been concealed. Good luck! : )

  5. yes, nissans are very good cars, and my experiences with them have been overwhelmingly positive. they are quite reliable as well. sentras are some of the best small cars you can get
