  1. Mizunderstood, he wasn't asking about the V35 GTR, he was asking about the R34 GT-R. Two totally different vehicles.

Anonomous (you know that's spelled wrong, right?), get in contact with an importer, and check with them which modifications the car will need to be road legal in your state. I know that in Australia, most cars need the tyres, battery, and child seat mounts modifying, and if the doors don't have integral side impact protection beams, then some need to be made and fitted.

There will be specific things you will need to do, the local DMV should be able to tell you where to get a copy of the design regulations from, and the importers can tell you what needs to be done to the car you want. The importer should also be able to point you in the direction of a quality local workshop that can do the compliancing work for you.

  2. It is legal to buy them and bring them to the U.S., but it is illegal to drive it.

You need to convert the steering and gas to the left side of the car because they are built on the right side since they were sold in Japan and England where they drive with the steering on the right.

To do this, it will costs lots of money and you need to find a company that makes the dash and steering column that can go to the other side.

Next, you need to replace the exhaust system, or catylitic converter, with a cat that is cleaner and fits U.S. standards. This will make the car lose power.

If you want a Nissan that has the same 0-60 time and top speed as the GT-R R34, then get a 2007-2008 Nissan 350z. Exact same performance for a cheaper price and better look.

  3. The GTR will be legal in 2009

  4. You can make the Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R street legal, but it often involves taking away some components, and then adding things to reduce the emission. Usually this means less HP too and since your modifying the car, its just not the same as it would be completely untouched. It can be done though, but it takes a lot of time to do the conversion to be smog legal in the states. Also its all out of your pocket, so any and all expenses, you have to pay. Which can really rack up into the thousands in no time.

  5. The spec 2 R33 is allowed for import in the US due to crash data from Motorex which the US gov could not argue about,so any car pre deciding this is allowed in the US after the R33 spec 2 is allowed.

Although there are loopholes,The main issue is getting the car to meet US specs which always seems to be the emission side,Stock Skylines do have a cat fitted but still mods have to be done fuel wise Skylines run around 100 octane myself i cannot get this high around where i live for my Skyline and have to do a 12 mile round trip for 97 octane. So this is something else which will need changing and again will effect the emissions and general running of the car when altered.Headlights need adjusting do to the beam being on the opposite  side .

Later Skylines do have abs and side impact bars as well as an airbag upto twin airbags, also the hicas/ATTESA E-TS systems.Which has saved my bacon a few times.

Steering wheel wise we seem to keep going this route,RHD is fine and doesn't need moving to the opposite side.

Bhp wise actual running figures of the GTR is around 330bhp so don't even look at the paperwork which was written  to keep Japan regulators happy, running wise the GTR will do around 500bhp on its stock internals and more with mods.So really your getting around a 500bhp car.

Other versions are the GT which is a non turbo and the GTT which is the single turbo version. Then there is the gt4 which is the AWD non turbo version against the others which are RWD apart from the GTR.The other versions should not be overlooked and can be modded well the single turbo version will see some great BHP figures.

The R32 R33 versions are great versions of the Skyline also, with models like the GTS,GTS-T,GTS-4,GTR.

None GTR versions are cheaper and as said take well to mods. Also the GTR is a 4 seater against the others which are a 5 seater. Also there is a 2 door and a 4 door version.

Best bet is go to your local gov office, and see what mods are needed to make the car street legal in your state.then ask whom can do the work and there happy with that...
