Nissan truck help.. timing issue??

i have a 96 nissan 4x4 2.4 and it has a 97or 98 motor in it and ever since the motor was put it it will not rev over 3000 rpm's the motor had a timing chain done in the truck it came out of.. it has all the ignition that came with the truck its in now but wont rev up ..

  1. If it had a timing chain put in it, there is a possibility that who ever put it may not have aligned the timing marks correctly on the cam gear and timing chain. If you can take off the valve cover, you can rotate the engine untill you see a dot about 1/16" in diameter on the cam gear face, it will be directly under the chain, but on the face of the cam gear. When you see the dot put it at 12 o'clock. you should also see a silver or stainless link in the timing chain above the dot on the cam gear. If these two thing are not aligned, then the enigine timing is off and must be fixed. This will cause the engine to only rev about 1/2 of what it should. Goodluck
