I live in Hull but am taking my girlfriend for a night out in Leicester (where she lives). Any suggestions for what to do? it's her birthday in a week's time, so something fun would be nice.

Alternatively, i could take her somewhere in Birmingham.

Any suggestions appreciated!

  1. Nightlife is mainly on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

There are a couple of main clubs in the town: Zanzibar, Liquid(close by to St Margaret's Bus Station), Black and White, Life

Leicester is a rather small city (well I come from London), so getting around wouldn't be too much of a fuss, but there are loads of black taxi's around so you can grab on of them to get you to the nightclubs ask for a specific club or Clock tower.

A good amount of bars and pubs around. For the best bars ask the taxi for Belvoir Street. New Walk has a nice bar called Revolution which do nice cocktails... about £4 each

If you are staying in the city centre when out, you can't go wrong.

If your looking for nightclubs there is only a hand full, but if you like bars then there are plenty for you to choose from.

I find the people quite chavvy in some clubs (but im sure you can find them anyway), but you won't have much trouble the main police station is close by, so you have fair amount of them on the streets at night, so your really safe. There is a cab station you can't miss - Swift Cars, which will have a MASSIVE queue after 1am, but you could get a black taxi opposite St Margaret's Bus Station next to Zanzibar really quick.

I would say go to Joungleurs on Granby Street, its very central with loads of restaurants and bars on the same road, or there abouts..

If she is into going to threatres try The Phoenix Centre on the latest shows http://www.phoenix.org.uk/

  2. Jongleurs is ok.

The nightclubs is Leicester are not great. However, there are plenty of bars and restaurants.

Braunstone Gate is great for bars, a good mix of people and no attitude, close to the city centre so you can walk into the city later in the night.

Revolution is a good bar, located on New Walk. It is a Vodka bar....a super selection of vodkas and the food is good too.

  3. Hey art,

I don't know Leicester but if your girlfriend lives there she probably does. Why not take her somewhere different and go to nottingham. It is close and is a fantastic city. The rock cafe is good. Prob not suitable for a birthday, whatever you are into. Have a good night out. Hope she enjoys it.

  4. stay away from leicester, its c**p, seriously, choose derby or nottingham instead

  5. hi art,

birmingham is a great bet! you will find loads to do on broad st, restaurants, pubs, bars and clubs. broad st is eay to get to from the stations:

play with this map. broad st is the orange main rd but you cant see the name of it on this view.

theres also pubs and clubs in digbeth; a short bus ride on the 50 bus will take you to moseley which has nice bars and restaurants. if you want too stay overnight there are some hotels in broad st too.

hope this gives you some ideas... enjoy your night out!
