hey, so i got a nitro rc car off of ebay, and it worked ok, not perfect. the car wast fast! btu it was running way too rich. i have never had a nitro rc car before and even i knew it was, there was a h**l of alot of smoke whenever i accelarated and it used a full tank in about 5 minutes, which annoyed me. it also sounded like it slipped out of gear, for some reason, because when i was driving it, the car would scream, when i accelearted, but the car would barely move.

this annoyed me so i tried to tune it, i didnt have a clue. i messed around with the needles and it started to over accelerate like h**l when it was idle. now i cannot start the car at all. is there some way i can tune it back? or something, because this is really annoying.

help please!! thankyou, best anwser gets ten points

  1. cant you just undo what youve done?...as for the clutch,it may need a new one...them motors rev very high, and most arnt fitted with rings so its possable you may need a new pistion...ps,is the glow plug still grafting?..if not it wont start.

  2. First off welcome to the hobby, sorry it had to start like this.  It would help me a lot if I knew what kind of Nitro RC you are talking about but I will try to help you the best I can.  Most engine's default high speed needle setting is at 2.5 turns out, but note that this may not hold true for yours, try going to the manufactures website and they should have a default setting.  Now I hope you did not mess with the low speed needle and idle s***w because they are VERY sensitive.  The best advise I can give you if you can't find the defualt settings is to try and play by ear.  When you crank the engine see how fast it "floods" (gets stuck) if it does quickly then your too rich.  To start an engine all conditions must be right.  If it is cold outside make sure to warm up the engine first, remember it is a glow engine.  Check all fuel lines for leaks.  Check your glow plug (do this by touching the tip of the glow plug to the cooling head and attaching the glow plug to your glow starter and look to see if the rings turn orange (make sure the first rings are orange, not just the back ones, and also watch out for possible ignition of gas fumes)).  Give the engine about half throttle when trying to crank it.  Also if needed put a drop of fuel directly in the carburetor.

As for the car slipping, this could be multiple reasons as there is not much information given.  First off check if your clutch bell is spinning, if not then your clutch is bad.  Second check if the spur gear is stripped.  I don't know if your car is a 2-speed, if it is then spin both back wheels and see if your spur gear spins, this will hold the same for a single speed also.  Know if all that works fine then check if your brake pad is spinning with the spur gear, if not then your slipper clutch is loose or worn.  Lastly, your going to have to check your transmission/differential for stripped gears, broken or loose bolts in it.  My guess is its either the slipper or you need to tighten your differential.

I know this was a lot of information, but if you read through it you should be able to solve your problem.  Feel free to email or IM me with any other concerns.  Check through my profile for more Nitro RC fixes and tips.

Hope this helps and good luck!
