Nitten Kirrtane outdoes Nikunj Siwach at the All-India Open tennis tournament
Indian tennis player, Nitten Kirrtane, from Maharashtra defeated Nikunj Siwach in straight sets 6-4, 7-6(6) in the pre-quarterfinals at the All-India Open. This tennis championship was organized and sponsored by the Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana Club.
The first set of the match did not give any indicator of the outcome. It was an erratic beginning to the match, as fifth seed, Kirrtane, broke Siwach’s serve thrice. His opponent returned the favour, breaking Kirrtane’s serve twice.
However, Kirrtane prevailed to break Siwach’s serve in the fourth game of this set. This was also the first service break of the match. Hence, the player took a 3-1 lead over Siwach. However, this state of affairs did not last as Siwach broke back almost
immediately to take serve in the next game.
However, the second set was markedly different from the first set. It was more competitive and a win was as uncertain, but neither of the players broke throughout it. Kirrtane, a left-hander, took full advantage of his exemplary slice shot to reply to smashes
fired by Siwach.
Another important feature of Kirrtane’s game is the fact that he tends to charge towards the net frequently during his game. These serves resulted in frequent winners, giving Nitten Kirrtane a definite edge over Nikung Siwach.
A combination of his slice shot, effective forehands and winners made sure that Kirrtane prevailed. The player, who recently turned 36, was obviously the better player. The number of unforced errors made by him was considerably lower than the amount committed
by Siwach.
In addition to this, Kirrtane has also had more experience than Siwach. The player is older than the 21-year old, Nikunj Siwach, and has also played professionally. He also plays for the Indian Davis Cup team. In the end, his victory was result of both experience
and age.
Siwach was satisfied with his performance, but he clearly expressed his disappointment over losing the match. He says, “My aim was to get enough points to get me to the futures, and that has been accomplished but I think I could have won this game”.
