No. 1 selection candidate for next NHL Draft, Jones looking to focus on game despite media attention
Seth Jones, an American professional ice hockey upcoming player and one of the favourites to be selected first overall in the first round of 2013 NHL Draft, would be looking to focus on his game only and handle media and the people’s expectation at the same
time.
Among the 38 players that played the CCM/All American Prospects game, which was first of its kind, Seth came out to be one of the best and that has increased his chances of getting drafted at the top next year.
The 18-year-old player is very closely being watched by all the scouts and would have all the eyes set on him when he plays in the World Junior Championships, Canadian Hockey League (CHL) All Prospects game and Scouting Combine and surely he would be the
one who would have all the attention in the meanwhile.
Talking about the extra attention he is going to get, the Plano, Texas native admitted that it is tough and he knows the fact that he would be watched by the all the media and everyone but he would try to tackle the situation well and try to focus on the
game, as he said,
"It's tough to put it aside. You kind of have to do the best you can. Stuff is going to come up like this, the [CHL] prospect game in January, World Juniors is just a couple more steps down the road. Those are going to be great experiences for me for this
year. I'm just really looking forward to having a great year in Portland as well."
This is not something that he would not be familiar with, as his own father was a star basketball player when Seth was a child and he saw his father in all the limelight. He has also taken some guidance from Popeye Jones, as the former NBA player told his
son,
"Everyone's watching you at all times and you have to act professional all the time, not do anything stupid off the ice -- which everyone does once in a while”.
40-year-old, currently working as an assistant coach also has advised his son to concentrate on game only.
