Question:

No 5.1 output when watching TV channels?

I recently set up my Prima Home Theatre (in a box) system and connected the red and white from the TV to the red and white on the DVD player (sorry for lack of technical terms). I turned on the speakers, choose 'Aux in' on the DVD remote - as was instructed in the manual - and turned on the speakers, but only get sound from the front left and front right speakers, and none from the center, and surround left/right speakers. When watching DVDs, I do get the full surround sound though. Does anyone know if this has to do with settings I have to adjust on the DVD menu? Or does it simply not work when watching TV?

  1. Can you find any sound setting selection button on the remote controller?

It should be one that allows you to change sound mode.

    Either:

    - Prologic (both version I and II) Dolby Surround

    - EQ

    - Surround Mode

Both my Akira and my Panasonic has the same button known as with 'Prologic' on them.

  2. you have t connect it to your tv, not your dvd player.

  3. The only way to get true 5.1 surround from your TV is to connect the digital audio out from your TV (assuming it has one) to a digital audio input in your home theater (if it has one). Otherwise you simply get 2-ch stereo.  However, many receivers can similate 5.1 from stereo.

  4. i am not familiar with your system, but i will try to answer.

first, the red and white cords (RCA cords) go from the tv to your dvd player.  the signal that the tv is giving out is a stereo signal.  that is the first reason why it is only 2 speakers.

second, unless your system (which i don't think it is) can take the  stereo signal (2.0 channels) and convert it to 5.1 channels, you will not get sound out of all of your speakers.

you get 5.1 out of your DVD becasue the movie is set up for 5.1 channels, and the player is telling itself to send signals to 5.1 speakers.

  5. I too am not familiar with your system but, with some all-in ones, you have to set the on screen menu when attaching an external sound source.

Refer to your instruction manual and set the auxiliary input to Dolby Pro-Logic or similar 5.1 setting, that SHOULD solve the problem.
