No Attorney, Can't make court date, What do I do?

After a tussle with my brother in our shared residence in California, he decided to call the police.

The police arrived and jotted down, my brother's, my live-in girlfriend's, and my statements.

After being told it was a minor offense (both of us only leaving with minor bruises) he was livid; demanding that I be removed from the premises (where we are both on the lease)

He was told that after talking with me and the fact that he wasn't knocked unconscious, that I wasn't a threat and there was no need to have anyone arrested or removed.

The next day i was served with a restraining order from the sheriff with a statement on paper in which the fight was greatly embellished; I appairently knocked him out and returned home that night only to threaten to kill him if he ever called the cops again.

I was given 15 minutes to get my things and leave.

I had just enough money to call people and get a flight back to Chicago with my girl.

Problem now is that fact that he lied on a police report to get a restraining order but I have two courtdates I can't attend in Cali (one to dispute the ticket and the restraining order). Nor do I have money to hire an attorney to find out my options.

Are there any options?

Who can i get advise from?

Do I have any rights here?

Can I fight this from Chicago?

  1. If this is Municipal you can usually reschedule as long as it is not the day of court that you call to reschedule on. They dint grant postponements on the day of court. If you dont call and dont go a warrant will be issued
