No British football team at the Olympic Games ?

why England or any other "British" nation can't do the Olympic Games in football ? can they unifiy and do them ?

Olympic comittee didn't allow sepearte entries for England, Scotland and Wales, and Scottish and Welsh FA's didn't want to enter a joint British team with England because they felt their national team and identity would be at stake (honestly...) (plus I think they thought they would be under represented)

Dunno why we didn't just submit the England team and be done with it... OMG did I just say that?

If they made a British team in the Olympics then FIFA and UEFA would stop them playing as England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in the World Cup and the European Championships....who would accept that?

This has been talked about but didn´t get very far due to the failure to get all parties agreement.

It´s quite easy to see why also, a multitude of questions and problems would arise if we were to set up a GB team. Firstly, just how fairly would each nation be represented. I´ll leave it to your imagination as to the outcome of the squabbles it would create.

Also there is the cloud that FIFA once suggested, that we should really be represented by a unified team of GB instead of three seperate national teams. I think to create a GB team for the Olympics would go just a bit further to strengthen their case.

The olympics are a joke there are real football tournaments like the world cup and although I think there should be a British team the FA don`t

There is no British team because there is no British football association.

Each country, England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales have their own football associations and they would have to come together to make a British team. Until they can do that there will never be a British team. Besides that many people do not think that Olympic football is a priority. The world cup and Euros are much more important.
