Question:

No Child Left Behind???

I just learned my preschooler (along with other children) who normally gets picked up at our daycare by public transportation will have to find new means of transportation due to the school system cutting back programs. Reason is said the care center is too far away from the school(yet it is within the school district). The only choice we now have not late for work is by driving out of our way to drop off our children at another day care (means leaving early and even less sleep, more cost for gas and higher daycare prices). Is it right the schools refuse to provide transportation for our preschool children being only a 20 minute drive from the school?

  1. Ok, well it is preschool. They don't need to provide transportation. They don't even have to attend preschool.

In our city if a child lives within a mile of the school transportation is not provided. It is up to the parents to drive the kids or decide to have the children walk. I would find another family that will car pool with you.

  2. I barely followed all of that.

Anyway, you gotta do what you gotta do. Suck it up and leave early.

  3. Sure, they can do whatever they want.

You've probably got plenty of other daycare options though - I'd find out from the school where they do pick children up from, and start trying to find the closest one to you.

You might even be able to work something out with another parent in the same situation, at least that might help half the time.

  4. Honestly, would youwant your preschooler to travel 20 minutes everyday just to get to school instead of having him or her in a school that is nearby?

It is not safe for a toddler to travel that far...anything could happen you know.
